Although it is impossible to predict the future, it is possible to envisage change from a vantage point. In this sense, many of the changes we see are already underway though still in their infancy. We are now on the cusp of an inflection point, where the ‘bigness’ of biomedicine turns into an advantage. New medicine technologies can only be fully successful if they are widely available, to reduce unnecessary morbidity and mortality and healthcare costs and further raise life expectancy.
The emergence and spread of new and resistant pathogens that have acquired alternative resistance mechanisms, continues to threaten our ability to treat common infections. Alarming is the rapid global spread of multi- and pan-resistant bacteria (also known as “superbugs”) that cause infections that are not treatable with existing antimicrobial medicines such as antibiotics. Antibiotics are becoming increasingly ineffective as drug-resistance spreads globally leading to more difficult to treat infections and death.
The combination of the advantages of modern, traditional and complementary medical systems is the best approach to providing better health care services for people and animals. Afrigen focus on important factors in the development of new medications in human and animal health care.
